Coming next

  • Version and build numbers, shown in the main menu and logged by the server.
  • Hard Diesel accounts in the game. Signed in from the launcher, players with Steam and without it are friends, party up and play together. The party panel says whether each friend is online, in a lobby or in a match, and has friend requests to accept and invitations to join or turn down. With Steam running, the game hands the player's Steam friends to the accounts service, which makes friends of those who have accounts.
  • The launcher for the playtest (launcher/): signs testers in with a password or Steam, shows whether they've been let in, installs the game and keeps it up to date, starts it with their session, and updates itself.
  • Fixed a crash that could end a match when a car pressed against two slabs of the cage at once.
  • Fixed ranked matches dropping both players at the end of a round.
  • Accounts: names needn't be unique, every player has a player ID, and signing in is by email or Steam. Registering for the playtest puts a player on the list straight away, and an admin's account page has the admin panel.

Build 0.1A56

The first alpha: everything the game had when versions began.

  • Team car combat in a steel cage, 256 metres long, sunk in desert sand, with a cheering crowd in the stands outside.
  • Rocket-car physics: boost, jump, roll in the air, powerslide, and drive up the walls and across the roof.
  • Five weapons (rockets, homing missiles, minigun, laser and a bouncing cannon) and five items (repair, shield, chaff, charger and cloak), picked up from orbs on the floor, with boost orbs down both sides.
  • Ramming damage that depends on where each car is hit and which is faster.
  • Online Team Deathmatch in 2v2 or 3v3, and Ranked Deathmatch in rounds, 1v1 or 3v3, through a dedicated server with matchmaking.
  • Private matches with their own rules and a four-letter invite code.
  • Local split screen for up to four players, with bots in every empty seat.
  • Practice in the cage, with scrap dummies.
  • Steam parties: invite friends and go into matches together.
  • Full-match replays, wreck cams and spectating.
  • A garage of bodies, plows, wheels and rockets, for looks only.
  • Profiles, each with their own car, controls and settings.
  • Rebindable keyboard, mouse and controller controls.
  • English, Spanish and Russian.
  • The Hard Diesel logo in the menus, and the HD icon on the game's window and, on Windows, its .exe.
